Oil Field of Dreams

Hats of to one of my favorite actors Kevin Costner for having the vision and putting his money and environmental concern where his mouth is by coming up with a centrifuge machine that is probably going to be the savior of the Gulf Coast if BP and Congress wake the Hell up and smell the oil.

Costner owns a company known as, “Ocean Therapy Solutions” which produces a machine called the V20, which has been proven to separate 210,000 gallons of oily water a day.  It has been tested in the worst conditions and if implemented, it could not just separate the water form the oil but it could in theory make the oil usable again which should make BP’s or any other oil company’s day.

Apparently BP has bought 32 of the units that are expected to be up and working in the Gulf within 60 days.  The problem is that Costner’s company is relatively small and so production is difficult for a large volume order immediately.  Here is where I have a problem with BP and even with the Government of the United States.  If this machine is a proven savior and can do what Costner and evidence has proven it can do, then why is the government or BP not moving mountains and earth to build factories that are big enough and well staffed enough in order to produce the environmentally safe solution to oil spill contamination?

It seems to me that millions should be put forth to ensure that hundreds if not thousands of these units are build and distributed amongst all the oil companies in the world who are drilling in water.  And Governments like the US should also be environmentally conscious enough to spent the relatively small amount that it would take to take Costner and his partner’s ideas and make it as easy and fast to produce as North American cars in Detroit.  Again, the common sense factor over the Cabinet sessions of men in suits twirling their thumbs as they look for a solution when it is staring them right in the eyes.  But then again, are they about to listen or take seriously a solution brought forth by a concerned actor?  I certainly bloody well hope so.
